Kids Being Kind

What is Kids being Kind?

The need

As parents, we give our children the best life we can, keeping them safe, well fed, happy. Ideally we give them all the pleasures of life we can: vacations, clothes, toys. Unfortunately, they often do not always appreciate how well off they are, and are not in touch with the struggles of those less fortunate than themselves. The Torah teaches us to love our neighbor; both Hillel and Jesus cited that as the greatest commandment; but we cannot love our neighbor if we do not know our neighbor. Kids being Kind is about practicing the love of our neighbor.

The need

Kids Being Kind creates opportunities for children to engage in "acts of lovingkindness" on a regular basis -- monthly or weekly. It creates experiences which exposes children to some of the needy population in a safe and controlled context. It helps children personalize social issues such as poverty, hunger, and elder isolation by letting them see these issues firsthand, and also teaching them about the issue and about the spiritual teachings informing our approach to serving our fellow. The Torah teaches us to love our neighbor; both Hillel and Jesus cited that as the greatest commandment; but we cannot love our neighbor if we do not know our neighbor. Kids being Kind is about practicing the love of our neighbor.

What can kind kids do?

Kind kids can do all sorts of things! We can cook a pancake breakfast for the homeless, we can visit the sick or elderly, we can play with children in foster care. What can YOU do?
